I am not suggesting that WW2 was a cakewalk without sacrifice. I am not suggesting that the home front wasn’t important – crucial, even – or that the citizens of the United States didn’t face deprivations in the struggle against Fascism. Let’s just put all that aside for a moment, and admit that sometimes government brochures and earnest magazine articles look, well, interesting from the distance of 60 years.
